Alcohol and speeding blamed for deadly Burke collision, authorities report

A tragic incident occurred late Friday night in Burke, as police responded to a single-car rollover crash involving a Tesla Model S on Mountain Drive. The passenger, 21-year-old Whit Steen, lost his life after being ejected from the vehicle and taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center. The driver, Luke Dudas, suffered only minor injuries and was brought to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. The crash is believed to have been caused by alcohol and speeding, with police charging Dudas with various offenses including DUI death resulting and gross negligent operation with death resulting. Dudas is scheduled to appear in court on October 13th.
