Albany man sentenced for fatal 2022 DWI crash

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- 38-year-old Caezare Ebron was sentenced before Judge Andra Ackerman on Monday for causing a fatal car crash in 2022, the Albany County District Attorney's Office (ACDA) reported. The Albany man pleaded guilty in July 2024. Ebron previously admitted to leading Albany Police on a high-speed chase after being found asleep at the wheel near Central and North Lake Avenues on November 18, 2022. The pursuit came to an end when Ebron blew through a stop sign near Bradford and Ontario Streets and collided with another car, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Kyreem Softleigh, who was a passenger in the second vehicle. As part of his guilty plea, Ebron confessed to being under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when the crash occurred. According to the ACDA, he was also out on bail and awaiting a sentencing for a firearm charge at the time. Ebron was sentenced to 12 and a half to 25 years in state prison for aggravated vehicular homicide and seven years for second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon. Both sentences will run consecutively. Despite being given an opportunity by Judge Ackerman, Ebron didn't make any statements before his sentencing. In addition to his prison time, he was ordered to serve five years of probation following his release.
