Albany man charged in fatal wrong-way crash on I-90

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man has been charged in connection with a wrong-way car crash that left one person dead on Sunday, according to New York State Police. Ibra Ndiaye, 28, faces felony charges. The crash occurred just before 2 a.m. near Exit 5A on I-90 in Albany. State Police said a car was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it struck a westbound car. The victim, identified on Monday as 20-year-old Safwan Mohamed of Schenectady, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ndiaye, the driver of the wrong-way vehicle, was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The 28-year-old has reportedly remained in State Police custody since the crash. Authorities said he was charged with the following in a virtual bedside arraignment at the hospital on Monday: Ndiaye was remanded without bail and his custody has been turned over to the Albany County Sheriff's Office, according to State Police. He will reportedly remain at Albany Medical Center as he continues to recover from his injuries and will be transferred to the Albany County Correctional Facility upon release.
