Air show to go on following fatal plane crash at Langley Air Force Base

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) -- Air Power over Hampton Roads will go on as scheduled this weekend, even amid the deadly crash of one of it's scheduled performers. Joint Base Langley-Eustis and National Transportation Safety Board officials held a press conference Friday afternoon following a plane crash at Langley Air Force Base that killed famed stunt pilot, Rob Holland. The MX Aircraft MXS flown by Holland crashed while landing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton shortly before noon. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. National Transportation Safety Board President Dan Boggs said during the briefing that the aircraft's loss of control was "underdetermined." The aircraft is set to be moved to an off-site location and a detailed examination will be launched on the flight controls and engine. This weekend's air show will be dedicated to Holland. Joint Base Langley-Eustis installation Commander Col. Matthew Altman said the event will continue to celebrate the joy of airpower and provide a tribute to his legacy. Holland was a 13-time U.S. national aerobatic champion, a six-time world 4-minute freestyle champion and a 14-time U.S. 4-minute freestyle champion. Holland had been flying at airshows for more than two decades.
