Air India plane lost fuel switches before crash, preliminary report states
A preliminary investigation report released on Friday revealed that fuel switches were turned off on the Air India plane that tragically crashed last month, resulting in the loss of 270 lives. The report by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau noted that the fuel cutoff switches were altered from “run” to “cutoff” for engines 1 and 2 on the Boeing 787-8 aircraft, known as the Dreamliner. One of the pilots in the cockpit voice recording was heard questioning why the switches were turned off, to which the other pilot denied doing so. The report, which is preliminary, indicated that further investigation is ongoing and a final report may take weeks to formulate. The airline, under scrutiny following the crash, expressed its commitment to cooperate with authorities and support the affected families. Air India Flight 171, bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, resulting in the tragic loss of lives on board and on the ground. The investigation, which involves officials from India and the United States due to the U.S.-made aircraft involved, indicates that distress calls were made before the crash, with one engine attempting recovery but ultimately failing to prevent the aircraft's descent into tragedy. Boeing acknowledged its support for the investigation and expressed condolences to those impacted by the heartbreaking incident.
