Air India adjusts long-haul flight schedule post fatal crash.
Air India has announced that it will be temporarily halting several of its long-distance flights starting this weekend. This decision comes after a tragic crash involving a Boeing 787-8 aircraft on a route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick, resulting in the loss of almost all 242 passengers on board. Following "enhanced pre-flight safety checks" and to adjust to longer flight durations due to airspace restrictions in the Middle East, the airline is reducing services for both 787 and 777 aircraft until at least mid-July. Affected routes include flights to Gatwick, Delhi-Nairobi, Amritsar-Gatwick, and Goa-Gatwick. Air India is also decreasing the frequency of flights to certain destinations in North America, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Europe from Delhi, Bengaluru, and Amritsar. The airline has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and will be reaching out to impacted passengers to provide alternative travel options or refunds. Air India's chairman has emphasized that the Boeing 787-8 aircraft had a reliable maintenance history. Meanwhile, the country's aviation regulator has issued warnings to Air India for non-compliance with safety regulations on some Airbus planes. These notices were unrelated to the recent crash incident and were sent prior to the tragic event. The government has not yet determined where the flight data recorders will be analyzed, as they were damaged in the crash and may need to be examined in the US due to their condition.
