Aiken Co. accident involving hazardous materials truck leads to reopening of interstate
UPDATE: The Aiken County Sheriff's Office has informed NewsChannel 6 that I-20 has been reopened, but the area underneath it, on US 1 - Columbia Highway North, remains closed. An accident involving hazardous materials occurred on Tuesday, prompting officials to advise drivers to avoid Highway 1 and I-20 if possible. The road is currently blocked, detours are in place, and Interstate 20 is closed at certain exits due to the spill of methyl acetate from a truck. Emergency response teams are on site, and a CodeRed alert instructed some Aiken residents to remain indoors. The detour is expected to last approximately 10-12 hours.
