Advocacy group helps truck driver share story of fatal crash on Florida Turnpike

The truck driver involved in the tragic Florida Turnpike crash that resulted in three fatalities earlier this month recounted his perspective for the first time through an advocacy group. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a human rights attorney and general counsel to Sikhs for Justice, met with Harjinder Singh, the driver held on manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges, at the St. Lucie County Jail. Pannun emphasized that the incident was a result of misjudgment, not intentional harm. Sikhs for Justice has pledged $100,000 to support the families of the deceased, who were identified as Herby Dufresne, Faniola Joseph, and Rodrigue Dor. The crash occurred when Singh attempted a U-turn in a prohibited area of the Florida Turnpike, leading to a collision with a minivan. The case has sparked national interest and discussions on immigration policies, with Singh's advocates highlighting his pursuit of a new life and expressing concerns about potential prejudice against Sikh truck drivers.
