Adolescents pronounced brain dead after river incident.
Two youngsters who were found unconscious in a river in northern Greece and later pronounced brain dead by doctors this week were part of a group of four teenagers swimming in the Arachthos River near the village of Neochori. They were rescued and rushed to the pediatric intensive care unit of Patra University Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, tests indicated severe hypoxic brain injury due to extended oxygen deprivation, resulting in irreversible damage. The 14-year-old's parents have agreed to donate his organs to help five other children in need of transplants. An investigation into the incident is underway.
