Accidental death of 9-year-old following dental procedure

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office has determined that the death of a nine-year-old girl after being given anesthesia during a dental procedure at Dreamtime Dentistry in Vista was accidental. Silvanna Moreno passed away in March due to a rare blood disorder called methemoglobinemia. The autopsy report revealed that she had received a combination of drugs, including laughing gas, which contributed to the condition. The appointment lasted approximately three hours and involved procedures such as a root canal, crowns, fillings, and tooth extractions. Following the surgery, Moreno experienced symptoms of disorientation and fatigue, eventually becoming unresponsive at home. Dreamtime Dentistry expressed profound sorrow over the incident and emphasized their cooperation with the investigation. San Diego police attended the autopsy, and genetic testing was recommended for family members due to the hereditary nature of methemoglobinemia.
