Accident on Highway 280 in San Mateo County Shuts Down Several Lanes
A collision involving a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer led to the closure of multiple lanes on southbound Interstate Highway 280 on the Peninsula on Monday. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred near the Alpine Road exit close to Portola Valley. A Tesla sedan was also seen to be part of the crash. The CHP assured CBS News Bay Area that the officer was unharmed. Specifics about the accident were not yet provided. To allow for the investigation, three left lanes of southbound 280 remained closed, with only the furthest right lane open for traffic. Commuters were warned of significant traffic congestion for several hours. By 4:10 p.m., traffic buildup extended back to just before the Sand Hill Road exit. This report provides preliminary information and further updates will be supplied when obtainable.
