Accident involving ambulance damages two vehicles in Moultrie County

Late one night, an ambulance was involved in a serious crash in Moultrie County, leaving behind significant damage on the road. The incident occurred near Allenville, at the junction of State Road 121 and County Road 1600 E. According to Sullivan Fire Chief Chris Wright, the ambulance, returning from a patient drop-off, collided with another vehicle parked on the road. Tire marks, burnt ground, and scattered debris marked the aftermath of the crash. Fortunately, despite the extensive damage, there were no casualties. Fire Chief Wright expressed his initial concern for his team's safety, fearing injuries, but thankfully, both firefighter EMTs involved escaped unharmed. The ambulance and the SUV involved in the crash were severely damaged and caught fire, requiring extinguishment. Both individuals were transported to Sarah Bush Lincoln for evaluation, with no reported injuries. Chief Wright emphasized the irreplaceable value of lives over material loss and reassured the community that service continuity will be maintained with the department's remaining ambulances while they work on replacing the totaled vehicle through insurance.
