Accident at Leonard Ave on I-96 West in Grand Rapids prompts closure

An important interstate in West Michigan has been shut down following a tragic accident on Monday morning. Michigan State Police are currently investigating a deadly crash on westbound I-96 near the 3 Mile Road overpass, resulting in the closure at Leonard Avenue after the I-196 split in Grand Rapids. To bypass the area, drivers are advised to take I-196 West to downtown Grand Rapids, then head north on US-131 to rejoin I-96 West. Alternatively, using surface streets like Leffingwell Avenue, 3 Mile Road, Fuller Avenue, and Plainfield Avenue can also lead drivers back onto I-96. The duration of the closure is currently unknown.
