9 people hurt in Lower Manhattan as car crashes into building, according to NYPD

According to the NYPD, a number of individuals were hit by a vehicle in Chelsea on Monday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of West 30th Street and Eighth Avenue, resulted in nine individuals being taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The police reported that a rented Ryder box truck was travelling north on Eighth Avenue when the driver lost control and collided with a parked unattended van on the east side of the street, pushing it onto the sidewalk. Emergency responders transported the victims to Bellevue Hospital, with at least one in critical condition. The driver and passenger of the truck stayed at the scene for questioning, and authorities do not believe the crash was intentional. Road closures are in effect in the area, and some public transportation disturbances are expected. For further updates, continue to follow CBS News New York.
