
8 fatalities from boat capsizing on Lake Tahoe identified by coroner's office
On Monday evening, officials shared that the final missing person from the recent boat capsizing incident in Lake Tahoe had been found, bringing the total death toll to eight. The tragic event occurred when a 27-foot boat overturned due to rough waters near D.L. Bliss State Park. Initially, there were reports of six adults who had passed away, with two individuals rescued and hospitalized, and two missing persons. Despite an extensive search spanning 390 square miles, the operation was temporarily halted on Sunday. However, officials confirmed on Monday morning that one of the missing individuals had been located the previous evening, followed by the discovery of the final missing person on Monday afternoon, both unfortunately deceased. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Coroner's Office has released the names of all the victims. CBS Sacramento also confirmed that one of the victims, Josh Pickles, was an executive at DoorDash. The incident occurred as the weather abruptly changed, with a storm system bringing snow and strong winds to the area. Coop Cooper, marina manager at Camp Richardson, emphasized the importance of being well-prepared and aware of weather conditions before boating. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, California State Parks, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and other authorities were involved in responding to the incident.
