7 injured in Monterey Park multi-car accident, halting freeway flow
A crash involving multiple vehicles occurred on the 10 Freeway in Monterey Park early Sunday morning, injuring seven people, four of whom were in critical condition. The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place at approximately 5:50 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near S. Garfield Avenue. The crash involved a grey Kia and a white Mazda, leading to one vehicle rolling over and blocking all eastbound traffic. Emergency responders transported the four critical patients and two others with minor injuries to a hospital, while the seventh patient declined transport. Crews worked to clear the scene and assess the damage, prompting a SigAlert to be issued around 6:16 a.m. The lanes reopened approximately an hour later. As of 8:30 a.m., the victims had not been identified, and the cause of the crash is still being investigated. The report was contributed by Alexis Lewis.
