7 injured in 6-vehicle crash on I-75 in Hillsborough County

GIBSONTON, Fla. (WFLA) — A six-vehicle collision on I-75 in Hillsborough County left several people injured Tuesday, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 248 in the Gibsonton area. Troopers said traffic had slowed down due to a previous collision that happened further north on the highway. The driver of a landscaping truck, a 42-year-old man from Seffner, failed to slow down and crashed into another vehicle ahead, according to the report. This caused a chain reaction where several other vehicles slammed into each other, officials said. One driver smashed into the landscaping truck and caused the truck to overturn in the middle of the highway, spilling debris onto the road. Troopers said the Seffner man and four passengers in his truck were all taken to Tampa General Hospital. Two other drivers, a 50-year-old woman from Wesley Chapel and a 57-year-old man from Bradenton, were also taken to a nearby hospital, according to authorities. Northbound traffic was blocked for several hours until the scene was cleared around 4:30 p.m.
