6th person dies in I-20 collision; truck driver confronts additional charges

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has confirmed that a sixth individual has passed away as a result of the tragic collision on I-20 in Kaufman County over the weekend. The operator of an 18-wheeler now faces six charges of manslaughter. According to investigators, the driver, Alexis Gonzalez-Companioni, confessed to falling asleep at the wheel before the accident occurred. Detailed information regarding whether he disregarded the mandatory rest periods for truck drivers during their journeys has not been disclosed at this time. Toxicology test results are still awaited, as reported by DPS to FOX 4. The collision took place on a Saturday afternoon and involved three 18-wheelers and four cars. Gonzalez-Companioni collided with several vehicles, including two other big rigs. Among those involved were five individuals in a Ford F-150, with four of them tragically losing their lives and the fifth being airlifted to the hospital, passing away later. A passenger in a Jeep was also fatally injured. DPS informed FOX 4 that all the victims resided in the DFW area. The identities of the crash victims have not been disclosed. FOX 4 reached out to the company linked with the 18-wheeler operated by Gonzalez-Companioni but has not yet received a response.
