DENVER (KDVR) — A multi-vehicle crash closed the intersection of Alameda and Buckley in Aurora on Monday evening, with police reporting some of the people involved had life-threatening injuries. The Aurora Police Department said that temporary roadblocks were in place while first responders were at the crash scene. The crash was first reported on X at about 8:25 p.m., and the roadway remained closed as of 9:10 p.m. The agency said one vehicle caught fire immediately following the crash, and that multiple injuries had been reported. That vehicle was an electric vehicle, according to Aurora Fire Rescue, which had its battery damaged and is "in thermal runaway." The fire is being allowed to burn itself out to limit hazardous water runoff, but smoke and flames will be visible at the intersection for an extended period of time. No structures are currently threatened, and South Metro Fire Rescue's hazmat team is on scene. At about 9:10 p.m., the police department said that the crash involved four cars, one of which was a police car that was at the intersection during the crash. The officer was uninjured. However, there were six people injured in the crash: Three adults were injured, including one with life-threatening injuries, and three children were injured. The police department said most of the injuries were minor. The area of the crash is near the western edge of Buckley Space Force Base. Aurora's traffic unit is responding to the scene to investigate and the circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation.
