6 individuals hospitalized following 5-car collision in Gatlinburg, Tenn., as per police.
UPDATE: June 2 at 11 a.m. A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk during a multi-vehicle accident on the Parkway in Gatlinburg, while another pedestrian was hit by a fallen sign, according to an official from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. Special Agent Jason Pack provided details of the incident that occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Sunday. A minivan traveling southbound unexpectedly accelerated, hitting a pedestrian and causing collisions with several other vehicles. As a result, a roadside sign fell and injured a second pedestrian. Pack confirmed that a total of seven individuals were injured, including five occupants of two different cars and two pedestrians. Pack stated that early investigations suggest a potential medical emergency may have been a contributing factor to the accident. The Tennessee Highway Patrol, with support from its Critical Incident Response Team, is currently conducting an investigation.
