5 injured in Gloucester, Mass. crash.
Five individuals were hurt following a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Route 128 in Gloucester, Massachusetts. According to Mayor Greg Verga, one of the drivers, an 80-year-old man, was traveling in the wrong direction on the bridge at the time of the crash. Emergency responders, including the Massachusetts State Police and the Gloucester fire and police departments, rushed to the Route 128 bridge over the Annisquam River after receiving a report of a rollover accident involving one of the cars. Upon arrival, crews found one vehicle overturned, with two individuals trapped inside each car. Gloucester firefighters worked to extricate the individuals from the vehicles. Caydence Martin described the scene as chaotic, with debris scattered everywhere. One of the rescued passengers, an 18-year-old man, was airlifted to a Boston hospital in critical condition. Three other passengers, two 19-year-old women, and the 80-year-old driver were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. An 18-year-old male from a separate vehicle involved in the incident was also hospitalized, though his condition is presently unknown. Martin shared that the younger victims were recent high school graduates, including one whom she personally knows and is currently in critical condition. These distressing events have deeply impacted the community, with Mayor Verga stating that most residents have a personal connection to those involved. The crash is currently being investigated by state authorities.
