5 hurt in school bus crash on I-195 in Wall Township, N.J.

A school bus crash on I-195 in the Monmouth County town of Wall Township sent five people to a hospital and shut down the roadway Thursday morning.Police said it appears the bus collided with a GMC van shortly before 7:30 a.m. near Exit 35-B at Atlantic Avenue, but added the cause of the collision remains under investigation.The accident shut down the eastbound lanes of I-195 near for hours, but they were reopened just before noon when the bus was pulled up and hauled away. Police said the driver of the totaled van, which had a shattered window, walked away with no injuries.CBS News New York went by Seman Tov, the company that operates the school bus out of Neptune City, but was told no one would comment.   Chopper 2 flew over the scene, where the school bus was tipped onto its side on the shoulder of the road. The roof of the bus appeared to be cut open so people on board could be rescued.New Jersey State Police said the bus driver and three passengers were treated for minor injuries. A fourth passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries. The passengers were said to be students from Communications High School. Other students told CBS News New York they heard about the accident while in class."It's really scary to find out that someone you are going to a pretty small school with is pretty seriously hurt," senior Tommy Schneider said."I remember my teacher looking distant, My principal came in at one point and then our teacher said the bus had flipped over," senior Gianni Dentino said. "And there were a couple of students in the hospital. I heard one person broke their leg the other person needed a leg brace. It's really scary, especially because we don't know who it is."A statement posted on the Monmouth County Vocational School District website read in part, "All families of students on the bus have been contacted, and we are offering them our full support. We understand that this may cause concern, and we want to reassure you that student safety remains our top priority. We are working closely with authorities and the transportation company to review the incident and ensure all safety measures are in place."Students at the tight-knit arts school of about 300 are being offered counseling, officials said.
