5 hospitalized in crash at east Las Vegas valley intersection
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police have identified the driver involved in a violent east Las Vegas valley crash that sent five people to the hospital Saturday afternoon and announced he faces criminal charges. The crash happened around 1:22 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Lake Mead Boulevard and North Walnut Road. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, investigators determined a 24-year-old man, identified as Raudel Luna, was driving a 2011 Infiniti G sedan westbound on Lake Mead Boulevard in the right lane at a high rate of speed as he approached Walnut Road. Police said a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling eastbound in the left-turn lane and began making a left turn onto northbound Walnut Road on a flashing yellow arrow when the Infiniti entered the intersection and slammed into the passenger side of the SUV. The force of the crash caused both vehicles to spin toward the northwest corner of the intersection. Debris from the collision also struck an unoccupied 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis parked nearby. Emergency crews transported all five occupants involved in the crash to University Medical Center's Trauma Center. Police said: Investigators said Luna did not show signs of impairment. However, police said he was booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of reckless driving and child abuse. The crash remains under investigation by Metro's Collision Investigation Section.
