$4.2 million compensation awarded to pedestrian injured in Metro Transit bus accident

A man who had his leg run over by a Metro Transit bus in Minneapolis was awarded $4,268,354.40 in damages by a jury ruling. The incident occurred on Feb. 18, 2023, at the intersection of Lake Street East and 3rd Avenue South. The pedestrian was injured when the bus driver recklessly departed from the stop, causing the plaintiff to fall and be run over. The jury determined the driver to be 80% at fault and the pedestrian 20% at fault. The compensation covered medical expenses, pain, disability, and emotional distress. The lawsuit, filed in April 2024 against the driver and the Metropolitan Council, was resolved during the jury trial held from Oct. 6 to Oct. 9, 2025.
