405 Freeway accident: LAPD sergeant and another person killed in Brentwood car crash
The Los Angeles Police Department is in mourning following the tragic loss of a sergeant who was fatally struck while assisting a crash victim on the 405 Freeway near the Getty Center. The initial crash resulted in one civilian fatality and one injury. The California Highway Patrol reported that a pickup truck had crashed and was disabled on the freeway, leading to a subsequent collision with a Ford Crown Victoria. Sergeant Shiou Deng, who had been with the department for nearly 27 years, stopped to help at the scene and was struck by a gray sedan, resulting in his passing. The community is deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Deng, who was described as a dedicated leader and hero. Flags are being flown at half-mast to honor his service. The LAPD and law enforcement community mourn the loss, and details about memorial services will be shared in the future.
