3 killed, 2 injured in crash during police chase on 5 Freeway in Orange County
A fatal crash occurred on Wednesday morning in Orange County after a police pursuit of suspected burglars ended tragically. The incident took place on the northbound side of the 5 Freeway near Brookhurst Street in Anaheim at around 4:45 a.m. Three suspects lost their lives in the crash, while two others were taken to the hospital, according to Anaheim Police Department. The severity of their injuries was not immediately known. The suspects' vehicle was seen overturned on an embankment off the highway, with no other vehicles involved in the collision. As of 5:30 a.m., traffic was backed up for about half a mile, and only two lanes were open. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes as the area is anticipated to be closed off for a significant amount of time for the ongoing investigation. Sky5 reporter Rich Prickett noted that the traffic congestion is likely to worsen throughout the morning.
