3 injured in early-morning rollover crash along Route 41 in Lake Forest
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (WGN) — A rollover crash along Route 41 in the north suburbs left three people injured and caused some road closures early Tuesday morning. The single-vehicle crash unfolded in the northbound lanes of Route 41 in Lake Forest, just north of East Deerpath Road, police confirmed in a social media post shared around 4:45 a.m. Authorities said a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver, who was headed northbound along Route 41 in a silver Mazda, crossed Deerpath for an unknown reason before veering off the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll over. Officers said at some point during the crash, an occupant of the car was ejected from the vehicle, while two others who were inside had to be extracted by members of the Lake Forest Fire Department. Officers said all of those involved were taken to the hospital with "significant injuries." While authorities have not said exactly what led up to the crash, officers believe alcohol and excessive speed may have played a role. Because of the crash, the northbound lanes of Route 41 are closed at Route 60. The closures went into effect around 5 a.m. and it is unclear how long they could last. Authorities advise drivers to use Waukegan Road or I-94 as a northbound alternative, though major delays are expected. An investigation by Lake Forest police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is now underway.
