3 dead, 2 injured in head-on collision in Wilkes County, according to NCSHP

A tragic head-on collision in Wilkes County, North Carolina claimed the lives of three individuals and left two others injured on Friday evening. According to a statement from the NC State Highway Patrol, the accident took place on Red White and Blue Road near Ruth Linny Road when a 2003 Jeep Liberty veered across the centerline and collided with a 2018 Nissan Altima. The driver of the Jeep, Randy Lee Johnson, 62, of Wilkesboro, the Nissan driver, Johnathan Andrew Laws, 34, of Roaring River, and a backseat passenger, Vickie Gustafson Key, 72, of Roaring River, were tragically killed. Two other passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The road was closed for around two hours for investigation. Although initial findings suggest that speed or alcohol were not factors in the crash, the exact cause is still under investigation. Wilkes County EMS provided updates on the incident on their Facebook page.
