3 adults, 3 minors hurt in multiple-car accident in Harrison County
In Harrison County, Iowa, a series of collisions on Interstate 29 northbound resulted in injuries to three adults and three minors on Saturday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol reported that the incident occurred near mile marker 80, just west of Missouri Valley, at around 4:11 p.m. Drivers were slowing down to merge into the fast lane after a previous accident in the east ditch impacted the road. One car came to a sudden halt and was rear-ended by another vehicle, setting off a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles. This chain reaction caused a sixth car to go airborne and flip over in the median. Six individuals sustained injuries of varying degrees during the pile-up. Emergency responders airlifted 22-year-old Jens Marttinen to the hospital, while 64-year-old Laurie Stee and 50-year-old Chad Cantrall were taken there by ambulance. A one-year-old and a nine-year-old were also airlifted, and a 16-year-old was transported by ambulance. The crashes led to a halt in traffic between the Missouri Valley and Modale Exits for nearly four hours. Several local authorities, such as the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri Valley Fire Department, Mondamin Fire and Rescue, Logan Fire and Rescue Association, and Harrison County EMA/Dispatch, assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
