In Bay County, Florida, the trial started on Wednesday for a man from Walton County accused of DUI manslaughter following a crash on Highway 79 in August 2021. John Edward Powers, 57, was allegedly under the influence as he drove south in the northbound lanes, resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle. Tragically, one of the passengers, Kenyotta Michelle Brown, lost her life at the scene, while two others sustained severe injuries. Blood alcohol tests revealed Powers tested at .24 on one sample, significantly exceeding the legal limit. In addition to DUI manslaughter charges, Powers also faces two counts of DUI involving serious bodily harm. Testimonies will resume on Thursday morning.
