2021 Clearwater Ferry Crash Leads to Citation for Jeffry Knight
The same boat and captain that were involved in the recent tragic crash with the Clearwater Ferry, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, were previously involved in a 2019 boat crash in Pinellas County. Images and reports obtained by the ABC Action News I-team show similarities between the two incidents. During the recent collision, the power boat operated by Jeffry Knight crashed into the Clearwater Ferry, causing chaos and injuries. Passengers on the ferry described the terrifying moment when Knight’s boat collided with the ferry. Despite the severity of the crash, Knight has not faced charges related to this incident. However, records show that Knight was previously cited for another crash involving the same boat, where serious injuries were caused. In that crash, Knight’s boat struck a pontoon boat near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Knight was charged with careless operation of a vessel and collision with a vessel in that incident, although the charges were eventually dismissed. Boat safety expert Randy Lopez emphasized the importance of following navigational rules and maintaining vigilance while operating boats, especially in high-speed situations.
