2 women dead after Auburn crash, police say

Two women who were clients of John F. Murphy Homes are dead after they were involved in a crash in Auburn, according to authorities.The Auburn Police Department said the crash happened at about 6:55 p.m. Wednesday on Washington Street, near the intersection of Beech Hill Road.Investigators said a 2016 Honda Odyssey van owned by John F. Murphy Homes was attempting to cross Washington Street from Beech Hill Road when it crossed in front of a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which was traveling south on Washington Street.Police said the van was transporting two John F. Murphy Homes clients. John F. Murphy Homes is a nonprofit organization that provides services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, other developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.A 57-year-old woman who was a passenger in the van was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she was pronounced dead shortly after the ambulance arrived at the hospital.Police said a second female passenger in the van was also transported to CMMC, where she died of her injuries early Thursday morning.The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously injured, according to police.Police did not provide any details about the condition of the van driver following the crash.The names of those involved in the crash are not being shared publicly at this time, as authorities are working to notify their family members.The section of Washington Street between Beech Hill Road and East Hardscrabble Road was closed until about 10:30 p.m.The Auburn Police Department continues to investigate the crash with assistance from the Lewiston Police Department.
