2 teenagers die, 3 others hurt after car crashes into tree in Sacramento County
Two teenagers are dead and three more were seriously injured after a car crash in Sloughhouse early Sunday. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department crews responded to the solo vehicle crash involving a 2023 MBW X4 just after midnight on Sunday on Scott Road. The remote road runs west of Deer Creek Hills Nature Preserve. The vehicle struck a tree and caught fire, according to Sac Metro Fire. The driver, a 16-year-old girl from Sacramento, and a 14-year-old girl from Wilton, who was a passenger died in the crash, the California Highway Patrol said. CHP said three teenagers, two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old, were pulled out of the burning vehicle by other passing drivers and were taken to hospitals with moderate to major injuries. Elk Grove Unified School District confirmed one of the teenagers killed in the crash was a student in the district. Two of the injured are also EGUSD students. The District said it is coordinating support services for students and staff, including counseling resources. Speed was a factor in the crash, and it is undetermined if drugs or alcohol were involved, according to CHP."This tragic crash is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly lives can change on the roadway," said Lt. Brian Maynard, commander of the CHP East Sacramento Area office. "We encourage all drivers to remain attentive behind the wheel, obey speed limits, and make safe decisions every time they drive."
