2 suspects in custody after shots fired at police during chase, crash on I-25

DENVER (KDVR) — Two people are in custody after shots were fired at police during a chase along Interstate 225, leading to a crash on Interstate 25 early Wednesday morning. The Aurora Police Department told FOX31's Jim Hooley that around 1:30 a.m., police were pursuing suspects wanted on suspicion of felony menacing. Police said they were following a red car from East Colfax Avenue onto I-225 heading south, then, they said a white pickup truck appeared and allegedly tried to block police from chasing the car. The people in the truck reportedly began throwing things out of the truck, then police said they allegedly fired shots at police. The chase continued on I-225 onto Interstate 25 south, where police said they performed a "PIT maneuver," which caused the pickup truck to crash just before Arapahoe Road. Two suspects in the truck, a man and a woman, were sent to the hospital with injuries and police said they will be taken into custody when they're released from the hospital. At this time, the extent of the injuries is unclear. No officers were injured in the pursuit. During the investigation after the crash, police said they recovered a gun at the scene. They weren't able to track down the red car that took off southbound onto I-25 into Douglas County. The investigation is ongoing.
