2 killed in Merced County after BMW crosses onto wrong side of the road, CHP says
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man and juvenile passenger were killed in a crash over the weekend after a suspected DUI driver collided with them, Merced CHP announced. According to the California Highway Patrol, on Saturday, March 22 around 12:20 a.m. they responded to a crash on Highway 165, south of Turner Avenue. CHP says 20-year-old Melissa Rosales of Los Banos was driving a 2014 BMW SUV at a high rate of speed southbound on Highway 165 as a 41-year-old man from Ceres was traveling northbound on the same highway in a 2016 Honda Accord. Investigators say Rosales failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and crossed over the double yellow lines in the northbound lane of Highway 165. The SUV collided head-on with the oncoming Honda. Officers say the driver of the Honda and his juvenile passenger sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. CHP reports Rosales sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. Rosales was eventually determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
