
2 killed in fiery I-495 crash identified by district attorney
The two people who were killed Thursday when a car caught fire after going off Interstate 495 North and crashing into the woods in Middleborough, Massachusetts, have been identified. At about 12:30 p.m., Middleborough Fire responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash near the Cherry Street overpass. When they arrived, a Toyota sedan was on fire in the woods. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames, and all northbound lanes of the highway were shut down. A man, who was found outside the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman, who was still inside the vehicle, was also pronounced dead at the scene.The victims were identified as Cecil Johnson, 70, and Rosemarie Dias, 68, both of Wareham. From Sky5, a vehicle could be seen on its roof in the woods next to the roadway. Skid marks were visible in the dirt leading from the asphalt to the trees.The entire northbound side of the roadway was closed for about half an hour, MassDOT said.The crash is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police.
