2 killed in crash on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz County
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Santa Cruz County.The crash was reported at around 4 a.m. on Saturday on Highway 1, north of Swanton Road.CHP said that a Chrysler 200 was traveling southbound on Highway 1 at an undetermined speed when, for reasons still under investigation, it crossed into the northbound lane.The Chrysler then collided with a guardrail, crashed into a dirt embankment, and overturned, landing on Highway 1.There were two occupants in the car during the crash. According to CHP, both occupants sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene.The cause of the crash is under investigation.It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors, and it is unclear whether the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
