2 killed, 1 injured in Mobile industrial accident.
UPDATE (Aug. 11, 11:15 a.m.): Tragedy struck this morning as two contractors lost their lives and a third was hospitalized following an incident while working in an underground sewer bypass. The contractors, employed by the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System, were working in a 4-foot by 4-foot bypass when the incident occurred in the Princeton Woods subdivision. Mobile Fire Rescue responded to the scene and found that the men had encountered a dangerous situation due to insufficient oxygen levels in the bypass. Initial concerns about a methane gas leak were ruled out by Spire. Emergency responders managed to retrieve the third contractor from the bypass and rushed him to the hospital. Regrettably, the first two contractors who had entered the bypass did not survive. The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing, and we will continue to provide updates as more details emerge.
