2 injured, charges pending after 5-car crash on Interstate 26
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Two people were injured and charges are pending against a driver after a crash on Interstate 26 in Kingsport Friday night. I-26 eastbound was shut down for hours near the Rock Springs Road exit following the crash, which occurred around 8:05 p.m. A crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said a GMC Sierra was traveling westbound on I-26 when it attempted to negotiate a curve near mile marker 7. The truck ran off the left side of the interstate and struck a cable barrier. The report said it re-entered the roadway before overcorrecting and hitting the cable barrier a second time. The THP said the GMC then continued through the cable barrier, striking an embankment and overturning while airborne. The GMC struck an eastbound Toyota Corolla in the front end, causing the Corolla to strike a Toyota Tacoma, the THP said. The GMC then continued to overturn and struck a Jeep, the report said. The THP said a wheel then became dislodged from the GMC and struck a Dodge in the front end. The report said the GMC came to an uncontrolled rest and caught fire. The driver of the Corolla was injured, according to the report. The driver of the GMC was also injured and charges are pending against him, the report said. No additional injuries were reported from the other vehicles involved, according to the report.
