
2 hurt after car crashes into tree in Newport
NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a car crashed into a tree early Wednesday morning in Newport. Officers responding to the intersection of Ocean Drive and Hazard Road around 12:45 a.m. found a Toyota Corolla against a tree with heavy front-end damage. The driver, a 29-year-old Fall River woman, was unconscious and trapped inside, police said. She was removed from the vehicle by Newport and Middletown firefighters and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Her passenger, a 39-year-old Taunton man, was found outside the vehicle and taken to the hospital with upper body injuries.
