
2 fatal Lynx transit crashes in Orange County in less than 24 hours
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to two fatal crashes involving Lynx transit this weekend, which left two people dead.On Friday evening, a 67-year-old woman was hit and killed by a Lynx bus at the intersection of W Colonial Drive and Charles Street.Per the report, the woman was running across the street just after 9 p.m. She was not in a marked crosswalk and entered the direct path of the bus where she was struck, FHP said.The 40-year-old man driving the bus stopped and let passengers off, waiting for responders to arrive.Neither the driver nor the passengers sustained any injuries. On Saturday afternoon, another fatal crash occurred involving a second Lynx bus, where a 75-year-old man died and three others were injured. Per the FHP report, the crash at the intersection of Wetherbee Road and Isle of Wright Drive included a second vehicle, a 2017 Tesla Model X.The driver of the Tesla was traveling eastbound in the outside lane. Per the police report, they approached a slower vehicle while exceeding the posted speed limit, FHP said.The Tesla driver attempted to change lanes, lost control, rotated, and veered into the left turn lane.The front right of the Tesla collided with the rear left of an eastbound 2017 Access Lynx bus.The collision caused the bus to overturn onto its left side before returning upright, partially on the sidewalk and roadway.The 75-year-old male passenger on the bus was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead.A 27-year-old male passenger on the bus was transported to Dr. Phillips Hospital with minor injuries. The bus driver was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.The driver of the Tesla was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert with serious injuries.Both crashes remain under investigation.
