19-year-old admits to drunk driving that caused fatal crash in Pennsylvania, 1 teenager dead and 2 others injured

A 19-year-old admitted to drinking before a crash in Cambria County that killed one teenager and injured two other passengers, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The crash happened around 5 a.m. Saturday on Beaver Valley Road in Clearfield Township. Police said the 19-year-old was driving a Nissan Rogue when he failed to make a turn and crashed. A juvenile passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. Two other passengers were taken to hospitals, one by helicopter and the other by ambulance. Police did not release their ages. According to CBS affiliate KDKA, state police said they learned at the scene that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and that he admitted to drinking. Troopers said the driver had a suspected minor injury but was not taken to a hospital. The Glendale School District identified the teen who died as 12th grader Carter Gallaher. His obituary said the 17-year-old was class president and a varsity football player who enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and music. It also said he hoped to join the Army. The district said counselors would be available at the school Tuesday for students and staff. In a letter, the superintendent shared condolences with Gallaher’s family and friends and thanked the school community for its support.
