19 Dead, 3,000+ Injured in Morocco Traffic Accidents Last Week

During the week of March 24 to 30 in Morocco, there were 19 fatalities and 3,002 injuries from 2,169 traffic accidents in urban areas. This rise in accidents was attributed to increased traffic during the Eid Al Fitr holiday when many people were traveling to spend time with family. The General Directorate of National Security reported that 105 people sustained severe injuries in these incidents. Key factors contributing to the accidents included distracted driving, failure to yield, speeding, pedestrian inattention, unsafe following distance, loss of vehicle control, and illegal lane changes. Traffic law enforcement efforts resulted in 45,160 violations being recorded, with 8,706 formal reports sent for prosecution and 36,454 on-the-spot fines collected totaling MAD 7,902,150. Additionally, 4,998 vehicles were impounded, 8,706 documents confiscated, and 432 vehicles taken off the road. The authorities emphasized their commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing accidents by enforcing laws rigorously and conducting awareness campaigns.
