
18 motorcycle accidents occurred in one day at Sturgis Rally in South Dakota
During a single day at the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the South Dakota Highway Patrol has compiled a list of accidents and apprehensions. Over the course of this 10-day rider celebration, a total of 18 crashes occurred between 6 a.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday, resulting in one fatality. Details from the Department of Public Safety report that a variety of incidents took place, such as motorcycles slipping, losing control, or colliding with other vehicles. The use of helmets by riders involved in these accidents is currently under investigation. Additionally, aside from the crashes, law enforcement activities during that timeframe included 21 DUI arrests, 31 misdemeanor drug arrests, and 14 felony drug arrests. The South Dakota Highway Patrol also issued a total of 252 citations and 592 warnings from Saturday to Sunday.
