16-year-old victim of minibike crash at Union and Dublin Boulevard

Law enforcement authorities have provided an update on a recent accident that tragically resulted in the death of a 16-year-old. The Colorado Springs Police Department confirmed the identification of the teenager by the local coroner on June 23. In accordance with state regulations due to the minor's age, the individual's name will not be disclosed publicly. The incident occurred on June 15 at around 6:50 p.m. at the crossroads of Dublin Boulevard and Union Boulevard. Following their inquiry, authorities determined that the teenager, along with two others, was riding minibikes southbound on Union Boulevard towards Dublin Boulevard. Allegedly, the teenager disregarded a red traffic signal and entered the intersection, where a collision with an eastbound vehicle transpired. Despite prompt medical attention, the teenager succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident on June 20. The driver of the car involved was unharmed. The authorities have not specified in their communication whether the driver will face charges or if charges are pending. Efforts to obtain clarification from the police are ongoing. CSPD has noted that this incident marks the 18th traffic-related fatality this year, contrasting with 30 fatalities reported by this time last year.
