16-year-old girl dies in suspected drugged driving accident: BPD

Tragic events unfolded on Sunday evening in Bakersfield, California, as a two-vehicle collision on Union Avenue resulted in the death of a 16-year-old girl and injuries to four others. Police suspect that the crash, involving a Hyundai Elantra and Jeep Patriot, was caused by speeding and drug intoxication. The Jeep Patriot, traveling west on Panorama Drive, crossed into the northbound lane of Union Avenue, striking the Hyundai. Juana Jasmine Orozco Guerrero, a passenger in the Hyundai, tragically lost her life at the scene. The driver and two other occupants of the Hyundai sustained moderate injuries, as did the driver of the Jeep, Jaime Oceguera. Once medically cleared, Oceguera will face charges including murder, driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, and driving the wrong way causing death. Police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
