15-year-old driver speeding in Clearwater crashes into home, car: FHP

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A 15-year-old driving at a high rate of speed crashed into a car and a home in Clearwater late Tuesday night. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Dodge Durango, driven by a 15-year-old boy from Clearwater, was traveling northbound on South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue when he lost control of the car. The teen departed the roadway near Hall Street, struck multiple traffic control devices and utility fixtures before entering the property of 1642 South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and hitting the home and a vehicle. The couple who live in the home, Kirk and Caitlin Pillow, were not injured in the crash. They tell 8 On Your Side speeding on MLK Jr. Avenue is a regularly occurring problem. The Pillows want Pinellas County leaders to consider installing speed bumps and other traffic-calming measures on the road to prevent future issues. "We get racers all the time," Caitlin said, "prayers that we get this neighborhood cleaned up a little better and a little more safe." The teen suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
