14-year-old killed in UTV crash in Tuscarawas County
NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (WJW) -- A 14-year-old is dead after being thrown from a side-by-side UTV in a Tuesday afternoon, June 30, crash. The crash happened just after 1 p.m. on Township Road 203 in Clay Township, Tuscarawas County, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Two juveniles, both 14 years old, were riding a Polaris Ranger northbound and tried to negotiate a left-hand curve in the roadway. The UTV went off the right side of the road and flipped, throwing both juveniles from the vehicle. One of the juveniles was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported from the scene by EMS workers then later flown to Akron Children's Hospital. Neither teen was wearing a seatbelt or helmet, according to the release. The crash remains under investigation.
