13 injured in Santa Clarita crash involving bus, big rig
A crash involving a Santa Clarita Transit bus and an overturned tractor-trailer has left 13 people injured Wednesday morning in Santa Clarita, according to preliminary information and a KTLA crew at the scene. The collision was reported around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Centre Pointe Parkway, according to dispatch logs. Sky5 was overhead shortly after, and aerial footage showed the city bus with heavy front-end damage stopped near the overturned big rig as firefighters and sheriff’s deputies flooded the scene. “What a mess here,” KTLA’s Rich Prickett reported from Sky5. “You see a city bus that struck an 18-wheeler or vice versa, but either way, it looks like there’s some pretty bad damage here to both the truck and the city bus.” Preliminary scanner traffic indicated one person had to be freed from the bus before being transported to a hospital in critical condition. Nine additional patients were transported with minor injuries, while three others refused medical transport at the scene, according to scanner traffic. Fire crews initially requested five ambulances to respond to the crash. “It looks like another car got tangled up in this mess as well,” Prickett said. Authorities remained at the intersection at 10:15 a.m. as cleanup operations and an investigation into the cause of the crash continued. This is a developing story. Updates will be added as they become available.
