11 hurt, 2 airlifted in crash on US 70 in North Carolina

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people were airlifted among nearly a dozen injured during a major crash in east Goldsboro early Saturday afternoon, officials said. The crash involving at least five vehicles was reported just after 12:45 p.m. on US 70 eastbound at North Oak Forest Road, according to Wayne County officials. According to video clips from the scene, a tractor-trailer appeared to plow into several eastbound cars that were stopped at a traffic signal near Deacon Jones Ford. US 70 eastbound lanes were closed at N. Oak Forest Road, with the left lane reopening around 5:45 p.m. and the scene clear by 7:30 p.m., according to the NCDOT. A total of 11 patients were treated or transported, with two flown to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, the Goldsboro Police Department said in a news release. The tractor-trailer in the video appeared to be from TAG Transportation, which has its own drivers and vehicles and also allows drivers to lease a truck and trailer. Elroy Volunteer Fire Department, Goldsboro Fire Department, and Wayne County EMS responded to the wreck. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office also responded. Goldsboro police will be leading the investigation, according to Wayne County officials.
